A pop of pink in the Innerwest

After living with a claw bath in this ensuite bathroom for a few years, this family of 4, living in Sydney’s inner west, decided to renovate and create something fresh and new. Inspired by the 1970’s love of colour and enclosed shower areas, they built this corner of fabulous pink in their master ensuite of their inner city warehouse.

What was the intention behind the bathroom project? We live in a warehouse that has never been formally renovated so our intention for the bathroom was to replace the existing claw bath with a shower and have some fun while we were at it. Though I loved the idea of having a bath, I probably used it only a handful of times, so it made sense for us to have the 2nd shower.

Why did you decide on pink?
I have a nostalgic love of 1970’s colour and their use of mosaics, and I really wanted the corner to feel like an enclosed space, without using any glass. Pink was a must as it is my ensuite and I compromise on colour in every other room. It took two days to build the framework and ledge and we used our existing tapware.

Where did your inspiration come from?
Pinterest, nana homes and bowling club bathrooms.

Now that you have lived with this pink colour in your bathroom would you do pink again?
Yes! for sure! We love the pink and would recommend it to everyone! It's fun, its fresh and feels feminine in the semi industrial space.

How important is the grout process?
Don’t get me started on the grout colour! This took me forever! I wanted the grout to be contrasting and originally played with blues tones before choosing this ___ to compliment the concrete floor and walls. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Though pink would traditionally be considered a feminine colour, teamed with with the darker grout and black tapware, It feels perfect in the industrial space. We created a box within the bathroom space by using the square tiles on walls, ledge and floor. Really pops in the room.
